Mom was sitting on the couch one day with Pug beside her. Dad came down the stairs and walked into the kitchen. Pug looked over and started laughing. He had noticed that dad had shaved all his hair off the night before. Mom started laughing too at the sound of Pug's laugh. Dad looked over and said, "Are you laughing at my hair?" Pug continued to giggle and said, "no, I am laughing at your head." "Oh" said dad "because I have no hair, so you are laughing just at my head."

Mom and Pug were sitting on the couch again one morning watching the news together. The lady was talking about a lady in govt. from Minnesota. Pug looked over at mom and said, "Minnesota! That is where Aunt Dayeya lives right mom." "No" said mom, "Aunt Daniela lives in Alaska, Aunt Lauri lives in Minnesota." Mom went on to explain, "Dad grew up with Aunt Lisa and Aunt Lauri because they were his sisters, Aunt Dawn and Aunt Daniela grew up with me because they were my sisters" Why she used past tense speaking of the siblings she did not know, but Pug must have picked up on it evidenced by his reply. "Mom" he said "when I was younger I had a brother too, and his name was Peanut."

Dragging thoughts from Pug
I like getting candy at Halloween, that is what I am thinking about, but mom asked me what I think about Christmas. "When I think about Christmas I think about presents! We have lots of presents under the Christmas tree. There were icicles on the umbrella outside this morning, it was cold. Christmas is about icicles too. And lots of lights. I like going to see lights at Grandma's house and to play. Can we go there mommy? I want to go right there right now. We went to Stone Mountain to see the lights before, we just saw snow flakes and blinking lights there. I am happy Peanut will stay home and play with me and not go to school." I am getting very tired of trying to explain myself to mom, so I am going to stop now before I get very upset.

Peanut is saving for His House
Today was a good day. Our whole family went to church. Pug got to go to his Sunday School class where he likes to sing "Happy Birthday to Jesus" and make crafts. I usually do, but this week they let us go into the big room and listen to a bunch of people speak. I saw mom and dad sitting in a pew and I waved at them the whole time. Sometimes they waved back and then dad made a motion with his hand waving it in front of his neck. I did not know what he meant by that, so I lifted my arm higher and waved even more. My teacher finally told me I needed to stop.
We got home from church and were all huddled in the loving room around our fireplace. It was super old outside and snow flurries have started to come down. Not much snow according to some people, but to Pug and I it is so exciting, I know more will be coming soon. Mom notices some marks on the flat screen TV. Dad says that it looks like crayon so he gets out some cleaning stuff and wipes it off. Then he looks at Pug and tells him that he is not to touch the TV. He says that he saved up for a long time to be able to buy that TV and that we all needed to take good care of it. I thought about that for awhile and then looked at mom and dad and told them that I know that houses cost a lot of money. Mom looked at me and said "um, yes, they do". I said "Yeah, that is why I am not going to go anywhere, I am just going to stay here when I get older". Dad looked at me and asked why I was going to do that, so I said "because I don't want to spend all that money, so I am just going to live here." Then I pointed across the street to the empty house and said "or I could just buy that house and live right there, that way for the Holidays or when it snows if you wanted me to visit you and play with you I could just come right over." Dad said "I am sure that your mom would love that." She agreed that she would. Then I said "or I could look around and see if I like any of the other houses that are still empty here, and see if they are for rents, you know for when I buy my Ice cream truck." My dads face turned a little red and he turned his face away, but I could see his shoulders moving up and down, mom just said that it would be a great idea. Well, then we went shopping so that is all that really happened today.

Tornado Watch by Peanut
Mom says we need to get ready to go to the basement just in case a tornado comes to our house. I need to explain to mom and Pug what they need to do if one does come. First we need to get everything ready so if it comes we can just jump up and go. I tell mom not to worry because I have great sensitives that will help me warn them. I have great ears to hear, so if the weather radio goes off upstairs I will be able to hear it and will be able to tell them to run. I also have great seeing so I will be able to see the wind outside. Those are the only sensitives I will need to be able to warn mom about the tornado. Oh, mom says it is not sensitives, it is senses, oops. Well, I guess I could even use my sense of touch, like if all the lights went off and we could not see anything then I could feel my way along the walls and lead mom and Pug down to the basement.
OK, come over here Pug I want to tell you about what we should do. First we should get everything ready. That's all I know. No wait, we should also not go outside or near windows, we should also not take an umbrella because if you open it the lightning will hit you.
Mom is trying to watch the news, Pug is running around like crazy, and I am trying to still explain to mom what she should do. She keeps turning the TV up, so I have to keep talking louder. Uh Oh, the news just said that a tornado just hit around where my family used to live. I cannot believe it, I remind mom that we did not have a basement in that house, so it is such a good thing that we moved here. If we had been in our old house we would have had to run outside and jump in a ditch. Mom says that the laundry room would probably have been ok. I wonder what would happen if there was no ditch, I am pretty sure I could dig a ditch fast before the tornado got to me. I tell mom that I am going to watch the umbrella outside to see if it starts turning. If it starts turning I will immediately, immediately find mom and Pug to warn them, then I will watch it to see which direction it is turning so I will know which direction the tornado is going. I really want to watch the news now, I tell mom that she should be listening too because it is important.

Ice Cream Truck Driver
Peanut has the brain of a doctor, the imagination of an artist, and the ability to fly to the moon as an astrounaut. His mom has often daydreamed about what he might want to be when he grows up, but when she asks him, his reply is always the same: an ice cream truck driver. To some this may seem like a unambitious goal to have, but to his mom it just makes her proud. To understand her pride you must understand why that job is so important to Peanut. He has not always had such goals for his life, he started out with the usual little boy dreams of being in the military, being a fireman, or driving a police car, but then Pug was born when Peanut was a little less than 2 years old, and Pug changed everything. Peanut's parents did not buy him ice cream from the truck that drove around his neighborhood often, but when they did it was a special treat for him. It made him feel special and grown up. So when Pug got a little older and they heard the music of the truck playing Peanut asked his mom if they could go buy some ice cream. His mom had to tell him no because of Pugs allergies. He could not eat an ice cream cone like other little kids. Everyday they would hear that music and everyday Peanut would watch Pug run to the window to watch in excitement as it drove past. Peanut started to feel really bad for Pug and what he could not do, so one day he told his mom that he would be an ice cream truck driver and that he would make all of his own ice cream so that it would be soy-free. Now, 2 years later, he is still holding true to his proclamation of what he will do in life. So anytime he says that he is going to be an ice cream truck driver his mom is proud because she knows the love that is behind that choice, although every now and then she tests him to see if he has changed his mind yet.
Just this morning Peanut and mom were sitting at the kitchen table having breakfast when dad came down all bundled up. Peanut asked why dad was wearing so much clothes, so mom told him that it was because dad had to work outside. No matter if it was really hot or really cold, because of his job, dad always had to be outside. "That is why", mom said, "it is important for you to go to school and pay attention, then go to college, then one day maybe you will have a really great job and will not have to stay outside." "Oh, yes, but mom don't you remember that I am just going to drive an ice cream truck when I am older?" Peanut said. "Hm, yes, but what about in the winter, when it is this cold no one is going to want to buy ice cream."said mom. "Well, then I will just sit at home all day" was Peanut's reply. Dad came down just then and mom laughed while she told him what Peanut had said. Peanut looked at both mom and dad and said "you know, during the winter I can just drive around and sell hot cocoa." "Ah ha" said dad "I think you are onto something Peanut, that is very smart."

The Story Begins
This is the story of two little boys and how they see the world. Peanut, as nicknamed by his mom, is 5 years old and is in kindergarten just learning how to read and write. He has brown hair and big brown eyes that are always smiling at the world. He has a crackerjack memory and could tell you anything you wanted to know.
Pug is a little 3 year old who stays at home with his mom and keeps her on her toes. He was born with a head of blond curls and has greenish brown eyes that are as determined as the sun is to rise every morning. He was born with his mind made up and no one can change it, no one at all. Peanut and Pug fight sometimes, but most the time if you see them, you will see them playing together or giving each other a hug. Peanut feels as if he must watch out for his little brother because Pug is allergic to many things including: soy, rice, oats, mushrooms, strawberries, mold, dust mites, oak trees, and dogs. For this reason, Peanut is always telling anyone around what all his brother can eat and cannot eat. Their mom often laughs while listening to them because they come up with the best things she has ever heard, or the most outrageous stories. For that is why we are here today, to start to capture these moments in writing so that we will never forget the wonderful things that come out of little boy's imaginations.
